My Friend on Books

I get all of my book recommendations from my friends. I avoided the Da Vinci Code because of the hype, but following a friends high recomendation I picked it up and couldn't put it down. Now I've read all of Dan Browns novels and I have say that DVC is NOT his best. One or two of his others are better. So what book is your friend recommending to you? More importantly why?
