TypePad are making changes to the way comments work on your TypePad blog, but it's a 'phased roll-out', meaning that they'll perform the upgrade on a few hundred TypePad accounts at a time. All users of regular TypePad Themes should find their account upgraded within 6 - 8 weeks. (Have you seen the new TypePad templates they launched last week? see them here)
Users of TypePad's Advanced Templates will have to wait a little longer, and will face much greater issues that I'll cover in another post. I'm also considering offering a TypePad Tweak service to take take of this for you, but I'll have to look in to that.
So What's New?
TypePad Comment Pagination
First is Comment Pagination. TypePad will automatically "paginate" your comments into multiple sets, meaning that comments on your blog will be spread across multiple pages. By default, entries on your blog will show the first 25 comments left on a post, and then allow your readers to click to the "next page" of comments to read the next 25, and so on.
Read A Stealth Change to TypePad's Comment Policy, for an interesting in-sight.
TypePad Comment Preferences
With comment pagination they've introducing a new set of preferences for your blog where you can define how many comments to show in a set (between 1 and 50), as well as the labels you want to use for the "next" and "previous" links. Don't like "next" and "previous"? Then change the labels to "Read more comments" and "Go back." Or "Mooooore" and "Lesssss." Or anything you like.
Faster TypePad Comment Publishing
TypePad also state that they've made some "big changes to the comment service that will deliver faster publishing." Jolly good then :)
This TypePad Knowledge Base Article has been published giving detailed information about the new comment pagination features.

what i really wish they would do is make it so one could reply to comments and create threads, and commenters would get notified by email when someone has replied... or do they already have that and i am just slow? i just moved over to typepad a couple months ago and miss that feature from my former blog.
